Classes consists of both SPED and General Education students who are at least two grades below their reading level. They have unique personalities as well as your typical idea of middle-schoolers--fiercely independent, preferring to work with peers and software. Some are known throughout the school, quite popular; others, superior athletes and budding scientists. A few are so very quiet and self-effacing, lacking confidence but still striving toward reading achievement. The 180 Reading Program invites students to not only spelling and vocabulary lessons, but to reading and writing zones, too. This is where most students face their greatest challenges, comprehension and expressive language. These students have rich imaginations, possess humor and unfortunately, are often frustrated without having the tools to build their writing capacities. The Dictionary/Thesaurus offers a resource for expanding and stretching ideas and sentences, making them more captivating and descriptive.
