My students' parents are extremely supportive of their children's learning and very involved in their children's well-being and futures, however, financially most of the parents of my students are working multiple jobs just to keep food on the table and a roof over their children's heads. Because of this, many of my students are denied the opportunities of some of their wealthier peers to have a story read to them for enjoyment, and do not understand that reading can be a pleasure activity rather than a chore. I would love to sit with each student every day and read to them, but there are not enough hours in the day to do that. This listening center will help the children who don't understand reading can be enjoyable learn to love reading. I can't sit with each child, parents might not be able to either because of circumstances beyond their control, but the listening center can. It can read stories to them without making the task a chore and help develop that love of reading.
