For many students, math is only about paper and pencil tasks. And when these become challenging, math is no longer a preferred subject or activity. As a math teacher and interventionist it is my goal to make math come alive and make sense for my students. I want to show them that math, numbers, and shapes are used not only in their classrooms, but in games and other activities outside of the classroom. One of the biggest struggles my young students have is understanding the number pattern to 100. These 100 hundreds mats give students multiple ways of looking for patterns in our number system and to create their own meaning. Also, these games and manipulatives allow students to make sense of equality, build numbers to ten and beyond, and develop a love of math!
