A new carpet gathering area will be used throughout the day for various reading, writing, and math activities, including whole group, mini-lessons, math interventions and centers, and independent reading time. The carpet will serve other purposes such as students learning cooperation, listening skills, problem solving and how to build a respectful classroom community. Our gathering time on the new carpet will help students focus their attention on the lesson or activity. This also allows space for practicing positive collaboration between students as they learn the skill of turn and talk with a partner. My students are eager to learn and will take pride in their new gathering space.
