I have 24 delightful Second Graders. They are curious, insightful, hard-working and diverse little wonders. Getting to be their teacher is truly a gift. They are hungry to learn, excited for every lesson and truly one of the kindest bunch of kids I've ever had the honor of teaching. My school is in a suburban district outside of Buffalo, NY. My kids this year opened my eyes to how learners needs are evolving. In a lesson on supply and demand, I took their (traditional) desk chairs away and told them they'd have to buy them back with our classroom money if they wanted a chair for the day. Lo and behold, very few kids wanted them or even cared to be minus a chair for the day. While my Social Studies lesson was "ruined", my eyes were opened. Traditional seating wasn't necessary and some of my most fidgety kids had the best day of work that day because they had to come up with an alternative. With the input of my OT friends, I've found many better, healthier seating options.
