Today's students, tomorrow's working generation, hold some of the biggest promise as well as the biggest responsibility of any previous generation. They will need to be astute critical thinkers to sort out the cultural, political, and cognitive tangles of the future. Text-dependent analysis is a cornerstone of our reading practice at Marrs. Using current events and non-fiction short texts, our students gain practice at thinking critically about what they read, using information to make rational choices, and developing confidence in those beliefs. Time for Kids and Scholastic News magazines present contemporary issues that are relevant and compelling to my curious, socially conscious preteen students. Twenty-five issues of each (a class set) will serve over two hundred students each week. What an impact!
