I was surprised to start my first day of school with students already rehearsing daily after school and requesting Saturday rehearsals to develop their ability. My students are amazing and talented. They are students that are deserving and worth helping. Our program is growing, yet we lack instruments and uniforms to accommodate the our projected growth. I have made these requests and I am working with the district and community to make a large purchase. While we have major parts of the music program yet to fund, we have kept our 40 instruments in repair for 90 students to use, cleaning mouthpieces between classes, so more students have an opportunity to play, and manages to buy reeds, a few mouthpieces, and all the repertoire. Our short term goals are simpler: Seek a little extra funding and use that money to put on some good performances that will get the word out about our programs and its needs for 2016-2017.
