My school district has, in the past few years, seen increased amounts of students on free and reduced lunch, along with families who struggle with generational poverty. However, the students within the school come from highly diverse background with an increase in ELL learners as well. My current population of students are very high achieving and they need to be challenged, but also require specific learning needs (English Language instruction for ELL learners, modified activities needed for reteaching, tiered lessons for students who require support or acceleration). The school, as a whole, is focused on positive behavior with a strong PBIS system as well as bringing the fun back into the school and classroom. We are also one of the few local junior high schools to be adopting a full technological pedagogy, with a 1:1 initiative set in place for the 2016/17 school year and a plan to go paperless.
