I work with a hard working group of special needs students. They come from different social and cultural backgrounds. They see their school as a place of learning and a place where they feel safe and also have fun. Something that I appreciate as a teacher is to see all the students learning and interacting in the classroom and their community where they live as a whole family. Our school is located in the north side of Chicago. Also, their parents are committed to help them with school work. This is appreciated because it makes a huge difference in the way these students perceive their learning and academic progress. My students understand that my first priority is to help them gain knowledge to master the skills that are needed to become successful at school and in their future lives. The problem is that our school does not get the necessary funding that is needed to provide for the many items or supplies that the students need to enhance their activities and learning.
