MHV sits in the heart of the Bronx, just to the outside of New York City. My seventh graders have open minds, but not necessarily the access to all the resources needed. When introducing them to new topics, jumping into a book does not bring about the most immediate of successes. Instead, these are group of kids that love to 'get their hands dirty.' Providing them with physical activities that allow them to 'educationally socialize' with their classmates is the avenue that they flourish under. But like most thirteen year old's, if the material is not relevant to them it gets pushed to the back of their minds. When the idea came along at having them learn about science, technology, engineering and math in the sport of hockey, it only made sense to bring as much of the sport into the classroom as possible.
