With academic expectations at an all time high, and recess time at an all time low in most public schools, mine included, students are not able to fully release all their energy. This build up of energy blocks their ability to focus completely on their work. Everyone knows children need to move, so why not let them wiggle while they work? Currently in my classroom, I have one Hokki Stool for a specific child who basically couldn't function in class without it. I have personally witnessed his ability to focus and stay engaged in lessons increase dramatically since getting him the Hokki Stool. However, I am a strong believer that a student should not have to be diagnosed with ADHD in order to have freedom of mobility while in class. ALL children are active creatures who physically and mentally need to wiggle, fidget, and release energy or else they could burst. My class is no exception to this rule.
