These reading materials will benefit my student's understanding of what brought pioneers to the west. They will explore the pitfalls that awaited them once they made the difficult decision to put their entire family in a covered wagon and travel for months through harsh terrain. In fourth grade students learn about their state, its historical significance to the US, land use, physical characteristics and its economy. Understanding what brought people to the state is a key understanding to this perspective. The books I'm adding to my classroom will give the background knowledge needed to aid my student's understanding and help to provide a strong foundation for the thinking needed to make sense our state's history.
