After reading the research regarding flexible seating, I allowed my students to choose their seat during independent and group work sessions. What did I observe? Happier, more engaged, and more relaxed students! "Our classroom environments should be conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking" (Delzer, 2016). By providing my students with a variety of seating options, I will see even greater motivation and engagement. The addition of five beanbag chairs will help create the environment I need to support my students' learning styles. Most of my students choose to sit on the floor to work independently or in groups, but beanbag chairs will offer my spaces for learning. Flexible seating is not new to my students. My kids have access to a few stools, a couch, and an over-sized chair. These few options have provided great areas for small group collaboration and discussions. My goal is to create the ultimate flexible seating arrangement to meet the needs of all students.
