From every little cranny and every little nook, my students are always searching for the perfect AR (Accelerated Reader) book! Our school is located on the outskirts of New Orleans and Baton Rouge. It is a low income school where over 75% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Many of our students are those relocated to this area because of Hurricane Katrina. My students are enrolled in English IV, ACT Prep, and English 101. Most of them are considered juniors or seniors in high school. In order to raise their reading awareness and to increase their comprehension skills, our school has implemented the Accelerated Reader Program where students read books, take tests, and earn points for those books read. Many of these students cannot afford to purchase these books so it is left up to me to provide them with a variety of high interest level books. As anyone knows, books are expensive.
