Many of my students are reading two to three grades below their grade level. Unfortunately, this makes it difficult for them to read on their own because they become discouraged when they do not know the meaning or how to pronounce words. Also, many of them are economically deprived so access to digital readers is not an option. Additionally, they enjoy sharing and collaborating because it gives them a feeling of success. Despite the fact, that they do not like to read, they do enjoy learning about the lives of others around the world. Being given an option of reading self-selected books, will give them an avenue to increase their stamina, vocabulary usage, and background knowledge.

About my class
