These intervention students are 2 years behind in reading. They do not have disabilities or any reason they cannot catch up. They are simply disadvantaged and need extra exposure to specific skills. They spend a half hour a day extremely focused on basic reading skills at their individual level. The instruction has been proven to work if we can just have the technology to support these students. Our school is a disadvantaged school. Many schools in our district have parental support and receive tens of thousands of dollars from their PTA. We do not. We have to fund raise for every dollar we get. So often little extras are missing. These students are already disadvantaged so we try to shield them from any more disadvantages. The goal of this fund is to protect the ipads so many students can use them for years to come without continue maintenance and interrupted learning.
