Flexible seating and student choice will help my student's success this year. My third graders enjoy working cooperatively and treat each other with kindness. In our classroom, we are family. They love to learn and share their ideas in exciting ways. Flexible seating and student choice was inspired by observing my students' excitement during choosing an area around the room to work with a group or a partner. Wobble stools and yoga balls will give my students an opportunity to comfortably work in all areas of the classroom. Students decide which seating option will allow them to do their best learning. Do they need a seat that allows them to safely move and rock? Or do they need a seat that allows them to safely bounce all while allowing them to move in a constructive manner and get the "wiggles" out. Research on flexible seating shows that there are many immediate benefits for students, including increased motivation, improved metabolism, better oxygen to the brain, and improve posture. My students are energetic, creative, and fun. They will enjoy and appreciate a seating choice as they learn together.
