Technology is a vital tool to have in a 21st century classroom use during our math block. Given access to additional technology will allow my students to practice skills that are needed for them to succeed both in and out of the classroom setting. My students are in need of eight tablets to use in the classroom particularly for the purpose of participating in additional mathematical practice, remediation, and/or enrichment. The use of tablets will provide my students with access to engaging apps and virtual games to enhance and reinforce instruction in the classroom. Third grade is the year when math curriculum shifts to become more challenging and complex especially for learners who may not have fully mastered the skills from the previous grades. Differentiation in the classroom is key to ensuring that all students are able to access grade level material. The use of technology on a daily basis is a relatable and engaging way to achieve this. Students in my third grade classroom would use these tablets on a centers based rotation for different purposes depending on their academic needs. Students needing remediation will use apps and websites that are designed to help students practice computation, concepts, and problem solving skills. Some of my more advanced math students will use the tablets to conduct math related research projects. The possibilities for usage and reward are virtually endless and my third graders would be elated at the opportunity to have this kind of technology at their fingertips every day!
