We are reading the novel, The Kite Runner, focusing on the symbolism of the kite in the novel. The students will each design their kite to represent their own vision for their future, just as the kites in the novel symbolize rising above the past and its circumstances. They will also have to work on the language of sequence as they go through the process of building their kites. This hands-on project, following an intense book study, will help students apply the lessons and themes of the novel to their own lives. It will also teach them about the principles of flight and kite construction. The combination of intellectual and emotional energy will make these kites a memorable and meaningful project for students.
