I teach 160 seventh grade students a day in rural Tennessee. My twelve and thirteen year olds are beginning to see other perspectives and question life outside of their own personal experiences. Most of them have not traveled outside of our county and state, and only one or two have traveled out of the country. My students' limited opportunities in our approximately six square mile city may be attributed to the $26,133 median household income. However, despite my students' various experiences and socioeconomic backgrounds, they are eager to learn and are open to new experiences. Our school supports our students and prepares them to be ready to work in a global workplace. Our mission is to provide a safe and stimulating environment where all children can master the necessary academic skills to meet the challenges of adulthood by establishing high expectations and becoming responsible, self-directed learners who are ready to achieve academic success at the high school level and beyond.
