We are a Title I school with an 89% minority population. Many of our students are eager to experience new things but simply haven't been presented with any opportunities. We are a magnet school so our students choose to come here instead of their zoned school which means they are seeking more than the average education. Our small population, 740 students compared to 1200 or even 2400, allows us to know our students individually and to have a degree of flexibility with how students experience learning. I love that students choose to spend any free time they get by coming to the library to work on school projects or to see what kinds of enrichment activities I have out for their enjoyment. They love games like Scrabble and Mancala, Origami paper projects, puzzles, Spiro-graphs and coloring sheets. At home, these students tend to have limited resources and encouragement to pursue these enrichment exercises. They are constantly asking what I'm going to bring tomorrow for them to work on.
