These materials will help students to draw a creature that they will then turn into a sculpture. The idea is to get students to think about working in a two dimensional format and then turn that 2D design into a three dimensional sculpture. The sculptures will be based on the Mexican folk art of Alebrijes. These are mythical creatures that combine different parts of animals to make one creature. The creature is supposed to be a protective creature that helps fend off nightmares and bad dreams. I feel like this project fits in perfectly with the needs of my students because they will be able to create a creature that will serve as a personal form of protection.
