I understand that all students learn and work at different speeds. One thing that I noticed as a teacher is the difficulty and time commitment it was to make enrichment opportunities for all students. I feel that these activities will offer those early finishers enrichment opportunities that really challenged them with important content. I am requesting both reading and math independent activities for those students to be able to practice and enhance their learning independently. I think these games are a great way for students to work on core reading and math areas on their own when they are finished with classroom work. I think a big thing for second graders to learn is responsibility. By providing students with a place to go and games to grab when they are finished will promote independence and responsibility for their own learning. It will give me as the teacher, more time to work with students who may be struggling or who may not finish things as quickly, while at the same time I am still providing the other students who already got the content with fun and practical activities to work on. I also believe the rug is a great place for students to learn. It provides another learning area in the classroom for each student to learn and respect each other's personal space.
