"Accepting students as they are now, not letting it be all they become." This is the motto for my classroom which reflects my unconditional love and high standards I have for them. Along with needing extra support, they come to school each day with a lot of gear. They have multiple changes of clothes, communication devices and chargers, blankets, orthotic leg braces, arm splints, cold lunches, all on top of the typical the coat, hat/gloves, and backpack. My students love being able to help in small ways throughout their day and being able to manage their belongings would be a great way for them to experience independence and responsibility. I have some students in wheelchairs and gait-trainers as well as ambulatory students. Nothing in their lives come easy for them and they battle each day to communicate, connect with others and orient their bodies.
