My school district has adopted a new math curriculum that relies heavily on concrete math manipulatives before moving students to using 'mental math' strategies. Students will use rekenreks frequently to develop addition and subtraction strategies. Rekenreks are used to help students group numbers into 5s, 10s, and 20s, both by moving beads and recognizing patterns in bead formations. Your generous donation will help students become better, and more fluent, mathematicians. The use of rekenreks in our classroom will improve my students' number sense this year and in their future math classes. Rekenreks will definitely enhance the learning in my math classroom!
