My students need the materials (Kindle tablets, protective case, warranty & charging station) that will allow them to work with coding (Kodable, Lightbot), reading (Razkids, Storybot) & math (Mathbrix) apps in an electronic venue. My young students are natives to electronic apps, online learning opportunities and the touch screen world. Their educational advancement, employment possibilities and lifestyles will be influenced by future technologies. Allowing some of the youngest learners opportunities for further exploration of this world outside of the traditional classroom activities provide authentic interactions to develop an early logical understanding of their expanding world. Kindergarten students are remarkably creative thinkers and electronic coding is the next step to help my students think logically while creating codes of their own. We are working with a tangible grid (on our floor) to explore basic commands as we see how commands apply. We have been working with logic and problem solving as it applies in the classroom. Using real world examples will help my students transfer their learning to an electronic platform while using the Kindle tablets in conjunction with resources such as Kodable and LightBot. The tablets are small enough for young hands to manage while the cases offer protection from daily handling. The Kindle tablets for my students will allow them to learn together as a large group and work with partnerships but also work independently on a daily basis. These young students are building resilience while finding ways to persevere using higher level thinking skills as they interact with each other and electronic devices. These higher level thinking skills are the foundation of their future. Electronic tablets will allow my students to apply reason, gain a greater understanding and experience the joy of success as they explore programming, reading and mathematical reasoning.
