I have 26 students in my classroom, in a large school that has 78 fourth graders. A third of my students struggle with staying focused in class. My students are very excited to have this opportunity to try something new that also helps them achieve their education goals. My research on alternative seating has shown that when students have a choice of where they sit they are more engaged in the lesson and more focused on their work. Each student will learn to find the best seat choice for how they learn and be more in tune to what is going on in the class. Alternative seating also helps with behavior issues, so that I can be focused on delivering the lesson and not having to stop and deal with behavior. We can't wait to try our new seating options.
