With daily access to Chromebooks, students can improve research skills, which are a key component of our 7th grade Language Arts curriculum. They will develop research questions and use online resources, which are scarce at school otherwise, to seek answers. Aside from specific research projects, students with off-the-cuff questions can use the Chromebooks to satisfy their curiosity about the world around them, rather than asking questions that only I can use my computer to answer. The Chromebooks will allow students to meet their unique, specific learning needs and desires. Students are no longer limited to the topics I provide, as they can learn and explore at their own pace. Skill-wise, my kids will also be able to focus on specific areas they need improvement in using the Chromebooks; they can work on key Language Arts and Literacy skills that need to be challenged or improved at their own pace. This will further ensure they are prepared for high school and college. Finally, the Chromebooks will give students regular access to a keyboard, browsers, and programs that they will undoubtedly need and use as they continue as both students and professionals. Giving students regular access to typing, browsing the internet, using word processing softwares, and other computer skills is a critical purpose of this project. Students take state tests on Chromebooks, but do not get much time otherwise to use and improve these skills. Providing Chromebooks will give my students the opportunity to improve research skills, explore their own curiosities, deepen key Language Arts and Literacy skills at their own pace, and practice computer skills on a daily basis to ensure they are high school, college, and career ready!
