Our students face many challenges, high levels of poverty being one. Currently, the data on our school reflects that our students are performing well below their peers in the areas of reading and math. In an effort to increase reading and literacy for our students, we need to have a classroom library. Many of the students do not have access to books beyond the school setting. As educators, we struggle for the financial and parental support that we need to incorporate a classroom library. Our parents do not actively engage in their child’s education and we currently have a non-functioning PTA. The lack of both put our students at a disadvantage.
