Learning to express our emotions is an important part of becoming a good friend and in the development of independence. Currently, our classroom teaches children these skills through active hands-on learning, reading books and by modeling social skills. The new dolls will bring our ability to help children understand how they are feeling to a new level. When they being preschool, many of the children can only identify a few emotions such as happy or angry. The dolls will help them identify other emotions such as surprised, angry, and sad which will facilitate higher order thinking and better management of their own emotions. The teachers can also use the new books along with the dolls to discuss different situations where emotions are likely to appear.
