Although, the theater arts program has been in place at my school for a couple of years, my at-risk school has had a revolving door of drama teachers and substitutes . Working with inner city students can be a challenge I serve 172 in the course of every other day however, I am determined to stage a couple of major productions and few smaller vignettes to showcase my student talent and progress. I am a firm believer that "great expectations generate great results, no expectations generate no results." For too many years the students perception of theater included watching a movie and talking about theater arts. In recent weeks my students have delivered improvisation, script reading and monologues beyond expectations. In fact our first project of staging a puppet show for the feeder elementary school set a precedent for student capability when expectations are clearly defined. Staging Ebony Scrooge was a breath of fresh air for students, faculty and parents.
