"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go." ~ Dr. Seuss Kids gravitate towards non-fiction stories that provide real life experiences. My classroom is lacking enough leveled books to provide a range of interesting topics and meet the needs of all my students. My students reading levels range from preschool to fifth grade. My school does not qualify for Title I funding, however, families lack the extra spending money for books. Can you imagine seeing your reading partner with a high interest magazine such as Tony Hawk, knowing that you have no chance of reading it? Some of my students want so desperately to read about the topics that interest them. These students work diligently every single day to acquire reading skills, such as phonics. However, their passion to read is weak due to the lack of high interest books. I know if I can put the right books in their hands they can all be successful readers!
