My students are bright, fantastic, and energetic! Many of them have a specific learning disability, like ADHD or dyslexia. They are very talkative, as many middle school students are. Living in a small community means that a lot of the students have grown up together. This is a great thing, but it can also cause them to get easily distracted by having friends or family in the same classroom. I recently took the students on a field trip to our capital city. Believe it or not, that was the first time many of the students have ever been outside of their hometown! The students don't have much. In fact, a lot of my students are from very low income families. Of the 40 students I took on my field trip, roughly half were unable to afford the cost of the trip. I will never deny my students an opportunity to better themselves or their situation because of money. Hopefully, having resources in the classroom that they do not have at home will encourage them to try their best in school.
