I teach 6th Grade Language Arts and 8th Grade Reading Enrichment in a public school in the State of Kansas. At this school I am also the AVID Coordinator, Family Engagement Representative, After School Rec Supervisor and Bus Supervisor. This school is considered a high-poverty and is also a Title I school, where 96.3% of students receive free or reduced lunches. In addition to our low-poverty population, a large majority of our student population is considered ESOL, as English is not their primary language. Many students from my school come from challenging backgrounds and home lives, as they are surrounded by food insecurities, gang activity, drugs, violence, etc.
