Every year my teaching partners and I read aloud a novel called "Never Fall Down" by Patricia McCormick. Our students embrace this novel unlike any other novel we read. Our students can relate to the main character, a boy who has the strength to overcome and survive impossible circumstances. The book makes our students laugh, cry, think, and most importantly it makes them want to read! This year we would like every student to have access to his or her own copy. This will allow them to do meaningful rereads as well has analytical written work. We plan to reuse these books every year for our future students.
