Our current curriculum does not accurately portray the beauty and make-up of our classroom. This project will change that for the better. The multicultural books I've hand-selected will provide opportunity for my students to identify and empathize with the characters, authors, and poets. By seeing authors who look like them, they will feel empowered too! From poetry books about brown skin, to making salsa in the kitchen, to exploring Chinatown, my students will feel inspired to write poems about their own lives! Many of my students are 1st and 2nd generation from countries such as Mexico, Vietnam, Guatemala, and Somalia. With such a diverse classroom, my hope is to create a classroom library that is equally as diverse! Thank you for helping in any way you can! It means the world to me.
