I teach at the "Melting Pot" of middle schools. We have a diverse world population, students that come from an inner city area as well as a large special needs population. This makes my school unique and very rich in culture! I have typical middle school kids that strive to be independent but aren't quite ready. My students want to have different lives than many of their parents/guardians but aren't quite sure how to make that happen. I see the lack of their math and logic skills presenting a challenge in their daily and academic life.
