Our students attend a magnet international baccalaureate elementary school for students in a high-poverty inner city neighborhood. Over 70% of the students in our classroom are females and traditionally, they get left out of the technology courses. We are hoping the Hour of Code program gets these students interested in the future technology skills that they will need in order to succeed in the business world after they graduate. These skills will help keep many of the young ladies and gentlemen from dropping out before they graduate. Grants for this classroom affect over 200 students in computer science, environmental science and math classes.
