My school is located in Hawaii and is a Title 1 school. We service students from preschool through 5th grade. We have a very diverse population. The dominant ethnic groups are Filipino (26.6%), Native Hawaiian (20.6%), Japanese (12.5%) and White (13.8%). Other ethnic groups such as Korean, Portuguese, Hispanic, Samoan, and Micronesian make up the rest of the student population. 5.6% of the population are English language learners. Our vision here is to create a dynamic community where we dream, strive and achieve together. In my class, there are 23 first grade students. Their ability levels in reading and math range from pre-K to 2nd grade. They are typical 6 and 7 year olds that are full of energy and eager to learn.
