My students are very eager to learn Spanish. They live in a city with a large Hispanic community and are around the language almost daily. A lot of them see the value in learning a second language, whereas the others need a little more motivation. They are gaining a better understanding of the culture as a whole. The school community here is very accepting of each other and skin color isn't a big issue. The students enjoy learning through stories and from doing MovieTalks, where we watch short animated clips discussing what is going on in Spanish. This helps students associate new words with actions, people, places and objects. We also create our own stories utilizing certain word structures, however, some students have difficulties following as they don't know all the words and can't grasp where to take the story next. This is where live storyboards come into play and liven up the classroom a lot. In the past, we've used the whiteboards, but they get erased after each class.
