My school's population is diverse to say the least. Our demographics are: 28% African American, 37% Hispanic, 27% White, 5% Asian, 3% Hawaiian, Native American, or multiple ethnicity. 58% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. Many of the students I teach are first generation American citizens, and several are from foreign countries themselves. If and when they make it to college, they will be the first in their family to go to college in many cases. My students come from all different walks of life. Some come from broken or separated homes, some come from single parents, and still some come from a household with both mother and father present. My school is also all-inclusive with our Special Education population, with students of all different abilities taking the same classes. Needless to say, my classroom features students from many different ethnic backgrounds, a wide range of abilities, and varying socio-economic statuses.
