When I began my Intervention position this year, I had no idea what I was doing in the beginning. Now, I am passionate about what I do! I had a few personal supplies. The furniture I inherited, includes a too small, narrow table. It has bolts sticking out in the middle of the surface, making it uneven for writing on. This is the only table available for the students to sit at, and was a reject that no one wanted. The equipment is broken and has been repaired over and over for years. The students need furniture that can accommodate not only their size, but supplies and equipment to provide a comfortable and adequate learning environment, as well. The majority of the students I work with have learning disabilities. They respond best to hands-on teaching. We need supplies and tactile games (which I make a lot of, myself) to learn the skills that help them succeed. The chair I use, was a broken one that I rescued. We need a book shelf to store our reading materials and supplies, which are now in tubs and on the floor. We need supplies to use for our daily lessons. In asking for the supplies and equipment, I hope to create an atmosphere conducive to innovation and fun. I want the students who come in here to have adequate supplies and furniture. They deserve an environment that is pleasant to be in, yet engaging and academic, as well.
