My students are curious, caring, determined, enthusiastic, active, intelligent, and creative. Yet, almost all of my students eat free breakfast and lunch at school every day because they come from low-income households where their parents can't always afford to provide sufficient nutrition for them. The demographic breakdown in my classroom provides for a rich learning environment, given that I have a mix of Hispanic, African American, and Caucasian students. Since most of my students come from low-income families, their life experiences are limited. For example, before this school year, most of my students had not used a computer. They're slowly learning how to use the keyboard and mouse, but they have a long way to go until they're proficient. Compared to three-year-olds in middle/upper class households who know how to work iPads better than some adults, my five and six-year-olds are very behind in terms of their technological experiences.
