I am so very lucky to teach in a school district that has a wide range of students. While this diversity offers too many positives to count, there are some drawbacks. We serve a very low socioeconomic culture, showcased by the fact that every student in our district receives free breakfast and lunch. Most of our students come from single parent households, and we serve many children who do not have any parents in the picture. Overall, the town is very small, and relies on agricultural industry and the occasional blue collar job. Because of this, my students are not as interested in a typical classroom environment as others might be. They require a more active and hands on learning environment with interesting and active works of literature to engage them!
