Our school consists of many children who are first generation immigrants from Mexico and other countries. Many students live in small, crowded apartments shared by multiple families. Their parents are often working at two jobs just to feed and support their families. Over 70% are from low income families. Despite these hardships, many students show strong leadership qualities. They want to build a school community that is helpful, kind and friendly to others. They want to stop bullying and mean behavior and stand up for others. They have little access to art experiences and using high quality art materials, but when given the chance they can be creative and make posters and drawings that let other students know how to make and keep friends, be kind to others and be a school leader.
