My school is in a semi-rural area. My students range in age from 5-12 years old. While I have quite a few native Spanish speakers, the majority of my students are being exposed to a second language for the first time. At this school, Spanish class serves as an extremely important first look into the broader community. We are a school that values diversity and inclusiveness. One of my most important goals as a Spanish teacher is to prepare these kids to function in the global atmosphere that they will inherit as they move into adulthood. There is no better place to do this than in Spanish class.
