My high school students are mainly from low income, African-American families who do not receive many opportunities. The students need every opportunity that they can receive in order to experience the world around them. These books will help them to see other worlds. Since my students do not receive many opportunities to travel or visit other places, sometimes a good book may be the only means of escaping from a drab or boring life.
