"Independent" describes my students. They are innovative and excited! They can't wait for the introduction of a new project so they can get started. It takes time to introduce new concepts and they often fidget during direct instruction . This instructional foundation is important to support, guide, and assess their learning. I want my kids to fidget to increase focus, but I need them to focus without distraction, and to be able move around while designing without incidence. Time is precious and collaboration is essential. They need their space to be functional for focus. Our classes rotate for success in fourth and fifth grade. My class wants to make their one hour in science productive. Authentic design takes time. There is NO TIME for distraction; therefore we are looking to replace all our desks with standing desks for three reasons: 1. To encourage movement which increases brain function 2. To reduce distraction from direct instruction 3. To increase workspace for collaboration
