My classroom is filled with learners who are eager to come to school each day. Many students come from homes where a language other than English is spoken. This means that students are expected to learn to speak, read and write English while making the same educational gains as their English-speaking peers. One way to accomplish this is through the use of technology. During our 90 minute reading block, my students are expected to read and work independently while the teacher meets with students in small groups. Non-English speaking students can struggle during this time. I plan to use the iPad Minis to engage these students. English learners can use the Imagine Learning program on the iPads and get an essential second dose of this important program. I know that with daily practice, students will soon be speaking, reading, and writing along with their grade level English speaking peers.
