My students are generally Title I students. That means they are at a lower economic status. Several of them are at high risk for dropping out. My class is a career oriented class, which allows them to explore different career paths. We cook in my class, which helps the students to be involved and create meals that they could apply to a future career, or even their basic skills at home. My class, which emphasizes cooking, also encourages vocabulary development and math skills as well. We try to coordinate our cooking with the Geography classes to help students explore different cultures. For examples, when students are learning about Africa in Geography, I'm planning to have them cook African food in my course.
